Today the Local accepted an offer to extend our present contract in the hopes of reaching an agreement in the near future.
Whereas much PROgress has been made towards reaching an agreement, the Company has thus far refused to discuss any issues that deal with economics. Although it is customary to keep these issues until the end, the Local was under the impression that yesterday or certainly today the Company would discuss economics. Especially since the contract expires tonight at midnight.
When it became obvious yesterday that the Company did not plan to discuss economics, the Local decided to call an end to the day after being available for almost 11hours. The Company had intended to meet late into the night and still not discuss any economic issues.
The Local was at the table ready to meet with the Company this morning at 8 am but the Company did not show up. This on the final day of our contract! As the Local sat developing their strategy going forward, the Company called and offered an extension.
This is not the result that the Local had desired after 65 hours of negotiating, but it is the best course of action at this time. Rest assured that the Local will push the Company to work at getting a final agreement to the members for ratification.
Keep checking back for updates.
